"Our mission is to discover basic metabolic and neural mechanisms and integrated regulatory pathways, and to translate these breakthroughs into transformative clinical therapeutics." - Dr. Zhiping Pang Director, Center for NeuroMetabolism
The Pang Lab is now apart of the Center for NeuroMetabolism (CNM)! The CNM at Rutgers University is committed to advancing our understanding of how the brain regulates metabolic function. By exploring the complex relationships between neurological systems and metabolism, the center aims to uncover the underlying causes of conditions such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other metabolic disorders. Researchers at CNM investigate how brain-driven processes influence energy balance, appetite, and overall metabolic health — laying the foundation for more effective, targeted interventions.

Housed within the Child Health Institute of New Jersey and affiliated with Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, CNM fosters a highly interdisciplinary research environment. Scientists from various fields collaborate to study how neural circuits interpret metabolic signals and drive physiological responses. This integrative approach not only broadens our biological understanding but also informs the development of therapies that are more precise and better tolerated by patients.
In addition to its scientific mission, the center is actively growing its research team. Opportunities are available for faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and research staff who are passionate about solving some of today’s most urgent health challenges. By combining innovation with collaboration, CNM is building a strong foundation for the future of metabolic research and therapeutic discovery!
